The project involved the production of television films on Nigeria's agricultural development with the objective of supplementing extension efforts by Governmental institutions. Since its inception, Talon has provided services in the following areas: subject identification of human resources, development of technical scripts, provision of technical assistance and guidance in editing and the development, monitoring and evaluation system. Initially, 45 films were produced. Later, Talon was appointed by the Delegation of the European Union as the Technical Assistance Partner to the Nigerian Television Authority to produce a new set of 52 films under the same programme (see our list of video films produced. |

On the basis of microclimate, soil and other ecological conditions and having regard to known requirements for tea cultivation, Talon identified a 2,000-hectare parcel of land in Mambilla for the Client and carried out planning studies for fertilizer, water, power, labour and other investment requirements. The series of investigation involved field surveys (land and aerial), interviews, laboratory and field analysis etc. |

Talon (Nigeria) Limited was contracted to carry out a total evaluation of the project and to recommend Remedial Technical Measures, Fresh inflow of Credit Level and other factors with the objective of making it profit-able. Talon (Nigeria) Limited examined all the aspects of production and submitted a complete package designed to eliminate existing problems in the water quality, fish species selection, fish seed production and marketing of the products of the farm. |

Talon’s Agricultural Scientists who worked for three years on a wide-ranging strategy for the sourcing of vegetable oil raw materials. The assignment involved detailed field experimentation on the performance of twelve hybrids and varieties of Sunflower, Groundnut and beniseed. This was then followed by nation-wide on farm trials involving thirty farms and all the ecologies of Nigeria that are suspected to be suitable for Sunflower production. One of the major outcomes of the work was the determination of the minimum investment level by Lever Brothers in vegetable oil production in a backward integration system. The study also generated considerable information on Sunflower hybrids that are suitable for the different ecologies of Nigeria and show conclusively that out-grow schemes for Sunflower could be as successful as the tobacco out-grow scheme of NTC. |
